The punishment of 'Death by the Axe' incorporated the executioner taking seven blows before the head was to be chopped off. This event would be held in a public place and witnessed by many crowds of people. The executioner would then hold up the head by the hair in order to show it to the crowd and it’s own body. For at least 8 seconds the person is still alive after beheadment and then lack of oxygen causes unconsciousness until death arises. The heads were placed on stakes and displayed in public places most often The London Bridge.
